Excerpt:
The air was thick with tension as I stepped into the opulent ballroom. The chandeliers glittered overhead, casting a warm glow on the polished marble floor. Guests milled about in their finest attire, their laughter and chatter filling the air.
I scanned the crowd, my gaze searching for one man in particular. Nikolai Volkov, the ruthless Russian billionaire who had captured my heart and held it hostage.
I found him in the corner, surrounded by a bevy of beautiful women. He was dressed in a tailored black suit that accentuated his broad shoulders and narrow waist. His dark hair was slicked back, and his piercing blue eyes scanned the room with an air of authority.
My heart pounded in my chest as I made my way towards him. I had known Nikolai for only a short time, but I felt a connection to him that I had never experienced with any other man.
"Nikolai," I said softly, as I reached his side.
He turned to face me, his expression unreadable. "Anastasia," he said, his voice low and husky.
I took a deep breath and looked into his eyes. "I need to talk to you," I said.
Nikolai nodded and led me out of the ballroom and into a secluded alcove. Once we were alone, he turned to me and said, "What is it that you wish to discuss?"
I hesitated for a moment, then blurted out, "I'm pregnant."
Nikolai's eyes widened in surprise. "You're pregnant?" he asked.
I nodded. "Yes," I said. "It's yours."
Nikolai stared at me for a long moment, then a slow smile spread across his face. "Well, Anastasia," he said, "it seems we have a little surprise on our hands."
I couldn't help but smile back. "Yes," I said. "A little surprise indeed."
Nikolai reached out and took my hand in his. "I'm going to take care of you and our child," he said. "I promise."
I looked up into his eyes and saw the truth in them. Nikolai Volkov was a ruthless businessman, but he was also a passionate and protective man. I knew that he would keep his promise.
We stood there in silence for a moment, lost in each other's gaze. Then, Nikolai leaned down and kissed me. It was a slow, sweet kiss that sent shivers down my spine.
When he finally pulled away, he whispered in my ear, "I love you, Anastasia."
I smiled and rested my head on his chest. "I love you too, Nikolai."
We stood there for a long time, just holding each other and savoring the moment. I knew that our lives would never be the same again.
But I didn't care. Because I had found the one man who would love and protect me and our child forever.
