The Problem with Liberal Victimhood
Liberals have a long history of playing the victim. They see themselves as the oppressed minority, constantly under attack from the forces of conservatism. This victimhood mentality has led to a number of problems, including:
- A lack of personal responsibility. Liberals often blame their problems on others, rather than taking responsibility for their own actions. This can lead to a sense of entitlement and a belief that they deserve special treatment.
- A persecution complex. Liberals often see themselves as being persecuted by conservatives. This can lead to a sense of paranoia and a belief that they are under constant attack.
- A lack of civility. Liberals often resort to name-calling and other forms of personal attacks when they disagree with someone. This can lead to a breakdown in civil discourse and a further polarization of society.
The Assault on America
Liberal victimhood has led to a number of assaults on American values and institutions. These assaults include:
- An attack on free speech. Liberals have been increasingly intolerant of dissenting opinions. They have sought to silence conservative voices on college campuses, in the media, and even on social media.
- An attack on the Second Amendment. Liberals have been trying to restrict gun rights for years. They believe that gun ownership is a threat to public safety, even though there is no evidence to support this claim.
- An attack on religious freedom. Liberals have been trying to erode religious freedom in the name of tolerance. They have sought to redefine marriage, ban prayer in schools, and even force churches to perform same-sex weddings.
The Way Forward
The way forward is to reject liberal victimhood and embrace personal responsibility. We need to stop blaming others for our problems and start taking ownership of our own lives. We need to be more tolerant of dissenting opinions and more civil in our discourse. And we need to defend our values and institutions against the assaults of those who would destroy them.
Only by rejecting liberal victimhood can we hope to restore America to its former greatness.
