In the age of "fake news" and "alternative facts," it's more important than ever to understand why people believe the lies that politicians tell. In the case of Donald Trump, his supporters seem to be particularly impervious to his falsehoods. Even when he is caught in a lie, they often find ways to rationalize or excuse his behavior.

So why do we love it when Trump lies to us? The answer, it turns out, is complex. It has to do with our own psychology, our political beliefs, and the way that the media portrays Trump.

Our Own Psychology

One of the reasons why we love it when Trump lies to us is that it makes us feel good. When we hear something that confirms our existing beliefs, we experience a surge of pleasure. This is because our brains are wired to seek out information that supports our worldview. When we find it, we feel like we're finally getting the truth.

This phenomenon is known as confirmation bias. It's a powerful force that can lead us to believe even the most outlandish claims, as long as they fit with what we already believe. In the case of Trump, his supporters are often willing to overlook his lies because they believe that he is on their side. They see him as a strong leader who is fighting for their interests.

Another reason why we love it when Trump lies to us is that it makes us feel superior. When we hear someone else say something that we know is false, we feel like we're smarter than them. This is because our brains are wired to compare ourselves to others. When we come out on top, we feel good about ourselves.

In the case of Trump, his supporters often feel like they're smarter than the people who criticize him. They see him as a successful businessman who has achieved great things. They believe that he knows more about the world than they do, and they trust him to make the right decisions.

Our Political Beliefs

Our political beliefs also play a role in why we love it when Trump lies to us. If we identify with a particular political party, we're more likely to believe the lies that our party's leaders tell. This is because we want to feel like we're part of a group, and we want to believe that our group is right.

In the case of Trump, his supporters are often very loyal to the Republican Party. They believe that the Republican Party is the best party for America, and they trust Trump to lead the party in the right direction. They're willing to overlook his lies because they believe that he is ultimately on their side.

The Media

The media also plays a role in why we love it when Trump lies to us. The media often focuses on Trump's lies, and this gives us the impression that he is a habitual liar. However, the media also often fails to provide context for Trump's lies. They don't always explain why he said what he said, or what his intentions were.

This lack of context can lead us to believe that Trump is lying for no reason. However, in many cases, Trump is simply saying what he believes to be true. He may not be aware that he is wrong, or he may be sengaja misleading us. The media's failure to provide context can make it difficult for us to understand Trump's motives, and this can lead us to believe that he is lying even when he is not.

There are many reasons why we love it when Trump lies to us. Our own psychology, our political beliefs, and the media all play a role. However, it's important to remember that not all of Trump's lies are created equal. Some of his lies are more harmful than others. We need to be able to distinguish between the lies that are simply annoying and the lies that are truly dangerous.

If we want to hold Trump accountable for his lies, we need to be able to understand why he tells them. Only then can we develop strategies to counter his lies and protect our democracy.
